PAUL KELLY
With special guests RUFUS WAINWRIGHT, THE CHURCH, CLARE BOWDITCH & GLENN RICHARDS

SCOTCHMAN’S HILL AT SPRAY FARM – SATURDAY FEBRUARY 20

Aussie legend Paul Kelly will head an all-star line-up for the next ‘a day on the green’ concert.

Special guest will be brilliant Canadian singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright performing his ONLY Victorian show, plus the always-incredible Church, songstress Clare Bowditch and Augie March’s Glenn Richards. That’s five incredible artists, one cracking night – we’re excited!

This will be the second ‘a day on the green’ event for the summer at Scotchman’s Hill At Spray Farm, following the Rob Thomas on February 6 which is selling very fast.

PAUL KELLY started 2009 in full ‘a day on the green’ mode supporting Leonard Cohen on his Aussie jaunt, then headed out for his ‘Paul Kelly A-Z” tour performing songs from his astonishing back catalogue. The eight time ARIA Award winner and ARIA Hall of Fame inductee is a true national treasure who deserves his iconic status.

Paul and his band will be showcasing songs from last year’s Greatest Hits – “Songs From The South, Vols 1 & 2” such as “To Her Door”, ‘From St Kilda To Kings Cross’, ‘Careless’, ‘Before Too Long’, ‘Dumb Things’ and ‘Last Train’. Kelly’s creative juices are flowing as strongly as ever and his live concerts are a timely reminder of why has endured as one of our most popular performers. Expect a huge Spray Farm singalong!

RUFUS WAINWRIGHT is affectionately referred to by Elton John as “the greatest songwriter on the planet” and praised by The New York Times for his "genuine originality". He is the son of folk singers Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, and brother of Martha Wainwright but has found his own niche as one of the most eclectic and brilliant talents of the past decade.

Dabbling in rock, opera and theatre, his latest and fifth studio album “Release The Stars” was described by the UK Observer as “complex, melodramatic, ambitious, vain, beautiful and frequently magnificent!” He has just released a second solo album and accompanying DVD, “Milwaukee at Last!!!” – again to rave reviews. This prodigious wunderkind will perform solo and will have the audience spellbound.

What is there left to say about THE CHURCH? After 30 years of recording and performing, the band is as brilliant and prolific as ever.
Their 2009 album ‘Untitled #23’ received amazing reviews and is the latest instalment in one of the longest, richest streams of creative endeavour in Australian music history. Their live shows continue to thrill.

CLARE BOWDITCH is loved by Australian audiences as a song-writing original who has released a slew of fantastic, thoughtful and cohesive albums. The 2006 ARIA Award winner for Best Female Artist is a renowned live performer and personality on stage, with a memorable list of songs including ‘Divorcee By 23’, ‘When The Lights Went Down’ and ‘You Look So Good’. After a European tour in late 2008, Clare set up shop in that greatest of artistic cities, Berlin, writing by day and playing clubs accompanied only by a Casio. The first taste from her upcoming fourth album is the single “The Start Of War”, a courageous and exciting contrast to what has gone before.

Fans of Augie March farewelled the band in August/September when they did their final national tour “for a long, long time”. The Melbourne band created a very special musical niche across 12 years and four wondrous albums, most notably ‘Moo You Bloody Choir’ (2006) and ‘Watch Me Disappear’ (2008). Singer GLENN RICHARDS’ distinctive voice and his sharp, literary lyrics earmark him as one of our great singer/songwriters, particularly evident when he performs solo.
